My folders
Your folders: labels you create yourself and stick on your horses in order to find them again.
The game imposes none and suggests none. It is an entirely personal classification, invisible to other players, and it serves one purpose only: filtering your lists of horses.
Reading a line
The folder's name and its number of uses. The name is clickable to rename it: see A folder.
The uses column is not just a statistic: it is what decides whether the line can be deleted. A Delete button only appears on folders at zero uses; the others have none. See the end of this page.
Four folders per horse, one per role
This is the point nobody works out, and it is what makes the whole value of the system. A horse does not carry one folder but four, independent of each other: one as owner, one as trainer, one as jockey, one as breeder.
You can therefore classify the same horse in four different ways according to the hat you are wearing while looking at it. And it is logical: the classification that serves you in deciding on an entry is not the one that serves you in organising your training.
The lists take account of it: the folder filter of My trainings looks at the trainer's folder, that of My races at the jockey's folder, and so on.
How they are placed
From the lists of horses, through the actions menu: tick the horses, choose Modify the folder, and the folder applies to the whole selection. It is made for dealing with twenty horses in one gesture — see My contracts.
What good folders are for
A stable of ten horses does not need them. Beyond that, they become the only way of finding your bearings, and the ways that work are always the same:
- By objective: “competition”, “for sale”, “broodmares”, “youngsters”.
- By stage: “in training”, “ready to race”, “end of career”.
- By discipline or by distance, if your stable is a varied one.
- By decision to be taken: “to retire”, “to test” — the folder then becomes a task list.
Twenty characters per name, which is enough. And as folders cost nothing, it is better to create one more than to twist an existing name.
Deleting: the folder has to be emptied first
A folder still placed on a horse cannot be deleted. And the game does not refuse you with a message: the Delete button is simply absent from the line. If you look for it without finding it, look at the uses column — it is not at zero.
The procedure is therefore in two stages:
- Unhook the label from every horse carrying it. From a list of horses, tick them, take Modify the folder in the actions menu and choose “Unfiled”, which is the first entry in the selector. It is the value that removes a folder without putting another on.
- Delete the line, whose button has then appeared.
This safeguard has its logic: there is no deletion that modifies your horses behind your back. Nothing gets unclassified by itself.
The counter adds up the four roles
That is what surprises people when they think they have unhooked everything. The counter totals the horses carrying that folder in any one of the four roles. You may have emptied your owner's folders, but the same name still serves as a trainer's label on three horses — and the counter does not distinguish.
If a folder resists you, go through your lists role by role: My contracts as owner, but also your training sessions, your rides and your foals.
A horse that leaves you is no longer counted
Only the horses whose role you still hold count. A horse that has been sold, or whose training or riding contract has come to an end, leaves your uses at once: you do not have to unhook it, which you could no longer do anyway. Its label is erased during the night, and its new holder receives it unfiled.
