Automatic messages

The setting for automatic messages: the ones the game sends you by itself. One box per type, and a box ticked means “I receive”.

By default, everything is ticked. A player who has never opened this window therefore receives all the notifications, which is the right setting to begin with.

Four groups

• Race organisation — the fullest: entry cancelled or removed by the manager, race cancelled or postponed, invitations to race sent to owners, jockeys, members or clans, automatic race deactivated.
• Purchases/sales — horse bought, reserved sale of a horse or a mating, higher bid on an auction, penalty for an auction not honoured.
• Sulkies and subscriptions — welcome, starting gift, upkeep costs, horse seized, gifts received, payment credited, subscription paid out or near its end, moderator bonus.
• Clan — invitation, horse or sulkies given by the clan, loss of administrator status, exclusion.

What it is prudent to keep

Switching off a notification does not remove the event, only the warning. A few are therefore worth keeping even if you want a light inbox:

• Higher bid: without it, you will lose auctions without knowing you had been outbid.
• Reserved sale: a sale reserved for you has a deadline, and once the time has passed it is lost.
• Horse seized and upkeep costs: these are the signals of an account running dry.
• Entry cancelled and race postponed: without them, you will discover the problem after the race.

Conversely, the invitations to race are the ones people switch off most readily when they get a lot of them and choose their own entries.

Two points of detail

This setting concerns only the game's messages. A message written by a player always arrives, and no setting blocks it — it is the messaging, not a mailing list.

And when you read an automatic message, its card reminds you which type it is and offers you a direct link to this window. That is the moment when you know exactly which box to untick — simpler than looking through the list.
