Assign a folder
The window that places your folder labels on a horse. It takes two forms depending on where you open it from, and the difference is not cosmetic.
From a horse's card: all four at once
The horse's four folders are presented together, pre-filled with what it already carries, and you correct the ones you want. It is the comfortable form, the one for fine-tuning a particular horse.
A useful reminder: a horse carries one folder per role — owner, trainer, jockey, breeder — and they are independent. See My folders, which explains why.
From a list: one single type, on the whole selection
There, you choose which folder you are changing, then the value, and it applies to every horse ticked. It is the form that saves time: twenty horses filed in one gesture.
Why one single type here? Because the four cannot be pre-filled on a selection — twenty horses do not have the same value to offer. If the window showed all four, confirming would overwrite on each horse the three folders you were not thinking about.
“Unfiled”, the value that removes
It is the first entry of each drop-down list, and it is what removes a label without putting another one on. People sometimes look for it: there is no button to unhook, it is a value like the others.
It is indispensable for deleting a folder, since a folder still in use cannot be deleted.
You only see what you hold
The window only offers the folders you have a hand on for that horse. If you are its owner, you set the owner's one and the breeder's one — you are the one organising your breeding stable. If you are its trainer or its jockey, you set yours, and only yours.
A horse entrusted to a trainer therefore has two living classifications in parallel, yours and his, without either seeing the other.
A detail that saves worry
If you have deleted a folder that a horse was still carrying, the window shows Unfiled for that horse rather than a phantom value. Nothing is broken: the label no longer exists, so the horse no longer has it.
