Give a horse

The window that gives a horse. It is not a present between any two players: it is a movement inside a clan, and it works both ways — from you to the clan, or from the clan to one of its members.

Like retirement, it accepts a selection of horses. Each is judged separately.

Giving a horse to the clan

The horse leaves your stable and becomes a clan horse. You are no longer its owner; the clan is.

Two things follow automatically. Its contracts, its sale, its matings and its test are settled, exactly as on retirement. And if it is a mare in foal, her unborn foal goes with her: it will be born in the clan.

The clan has a capacity: ten horses per member. If it is reached, the gift is refused — and on a batch, the horses go through until the room runs out. See My clan.

The game also refuses a horse declared unsellable, a horse already retired, a foal not yet born, a mare expecting more than one foal, a horse at auction with an offer, and a horse entered in a claiming race.

Giving a clan horse to a member

The other direction, and it is reserved for the clan's owner. You enter the recipient's username, and they must be a member of that clan — an unknown or outside username is refused.

The horse becomes entirely theirs: owner, trainer and jockey. Here too, a mare's unborn foals follow her to her new owner.

The recipient receives one message, and only one, listing all the horses in the batch. They have nothing to accept: the gift is done.

Why a clan horse does not do much

That is the key to understanding what this movement is for. A clan horse can be neither sold, nor entrusted to a trainer, nor put to breeding: the clan has only two rights over it, to retire it and to give it.

The clan is therefore a place of transit, not a working stable. What you put there is what you intend for a member: a horse given to a beginner, a horse a departing player leaves to the group, a horse bought by the common till for somebody in particular. A horse that stays in the clan produces nothing.

The gift is final and without return: no sulkies change hands, and there is no way back other than giving the horse again. See Clan's horses and the clan.
