Genetic display

The window that decides who sees your horse's genetics. It recalls the current setting, and offers another one. It accepts a selection: you can set your whole stable at once.

The three settings

  • For the team — only the owner, the trainer and the jockey. It is the default setting.
  • For the clan — the team, plus the members of your clan.
  • For all — everybody.

Note that the team always sees, whatever the setting: it is not an option, it is a given. Whoever trains your horse or rides it needs its characteristics in order to do the job.

This setting is not the only one that decides

That is the important point of this window, and the surprising one. The genetics become visible as soon as one single of several reasons is met, and your setting is only one of them. The others:

  • The horse is on public sale, at auction or at a fixed price. Putting a horse up for sale reveals its genetics to everybody, and that is logical: nobody buys blind.
  • The horse is in a reserved sale to one player: that one sees them.
  • The horse belongs to your clan.
  • It is a stallion with matings for sale: his genetics are then public, for the same reason as a sale.

Practical consequence: a secret does not survive a sale. If you cared about discretion on a horse, you should have thought of it before offering it — and once the sale is withdrawn, those who looked have not forgotten.

One rule overrides everything: a horse that is not yet born never shows anything, to anybody, not even to you.

Should you hide or show?

Hiding protects an advantage. A horse whose strengths nobody knows is a horse your opponents enter badly against you, and a breeding animal whose value you alone know.

Showing pays in another way. A stallion whose genetics can be read sells his matings; a horse on display attracts offers. And visibility makes your reputation as a breeder far more surely than your earnings do.

The “for the clan” setting is the useful compromise: your clanmates can advise you without your competitors benefiting from it.

Who can set it

The owner, and only on a horse that is born and not retired. Note: retiring a horse resets this setting.
