Enter a race
This is the exact counterpart of Enrol a horse, taken from the other end: here you start from a horse and look for a race. You get here from the horse's card, or from its Next race line in My horses.
It is the more useful direction day to day: you have a horse ready, you want to know where to send it.
What the header recalls
The horse, its age, its basis score, and above all its two earnings totals displayed side by side — free earnings and extended earnings. That is precisely what you need in front of you, since a race reads only one of the two: the free earnings for a free race, a cup or a random-genetics race, the extended earnings for a regulated race or a competition.
An extra line appears in one particular case: when you are the horse's jockey without being its owner, the window shows you the balance of that owner's wallet. He is the one who will pay the entry, so you will know in advance whether he can pay it.
The list contains only accessible races
As in the mirror window, the sorting is already done. The only events offered are those that are open, whose deadline has not passed, of the horse's speciality, whose bounds of age, score and earnings accept it, whose sex condition suits it, and to which its possible reservation entitles it. Claiming races only appear if the horse is at auction.
And if the horse already has a pending entry, the list is empty: a horse runs only one race at a time. Here again, an empty list is an answer and not a breakdown.
One subtlety to know about races reserved for a clan: the clan that counts is that of the horse's owner, not yours. A jockey riding for a player from another clan will therefore see the races reserved for that clan, and not for his own.
Reading a line
The columns are those of The races — name, date, class, racetrack, manager, criteria, entrants, minimum, cost, prizes, threshold — with the number of postponements the event has left before cancellation.
Only one reads differently: the You line. It does not count your entries but those of the horse's team — its owner on one side, its jockey on the other. That is the right reading, since those are the two quotas the race will check.
In the same way, the mention For small stable is judged on the stable of the horse's owner. You can therefore enter a horse in a small-stable race although yours is enormous, provided its owner's fits within the limit.
When the button is replaced by a word
The rest of the refusals are displayed in place of the button:
- Full: the twenty runners are reached — cups escape that limit;
- Small: a small-stable race, judged on the horse's owner's stable, see above;
- Cup: you only get into a cup at the first round, and this one is already under way;
- Already done: one of the team's two quotas is reached, the owner's or the jockey's;
- Reserved: the button stays active, marked by an alert icon — the race is restricted, and the horse is entitled to it.
Entering, and moving on
Here the Enter button takes you straight to the preparation: the window closes and the ride opens on the screen you came from, with no intermediate step. See Prepare a race.
That is the difference from the mirror window, and it has its reason: a horse has only one pending entry, so once that one is taken, this list has nothing more to offer you. From a race, on the contrary, you can enter several horses, so the list stays displayed there.
If you would rather put the ride off until later, it is built or modified right up to closing, from My races in the Jockey menu.
