Maintenance work on 22 October

At around 10.30 am on Thursday 22 October, the server will be restarted (to install Windows updates), so the site will be down for a few minutes.

I will then proceed to switch the Sulkyland homepage (www.sulyland.com) to version 7. This will only cause very brief interruptions to the site, so I would simply advise against trying to submit a long message or forum post between 10.30 am and 11.00 am.

In practical terms, here’s what this switch means:

Visitors will be directed to version 7. If they register, they’ll use the version 7 registration system. If they log in, they’ll use the version 7 login system.
For those who want to continue using version 6, no problem – as I’ve said many times before, though I think it bears repeating , version 6 will continue to work for as long as necessary. If you log in via version 7, you’ll be taken to the version 7 dashboard, and you can then click the button that takes you back to version 6.
I’ve set up https://v6.sulkyland.com, which gives you a ‘version 6’ home page. If you simply want to go straight to version 6 all the time, all you need to do is update your bookmarks. Similarly, when you click on the logo to return to the homepage in version 6 (so this will take effect when you switch over), you’ll be taken straight to this homepage.

There you go – nothing too dramatic will change, apart from one important thing: to comply with current standard security rules, when you register, or if you use the ‘I’ve forgotten my password’ option, the system will no longer send you the password itself in the email, so you’ll need to make a note of it; or, if you forget it, you’ll need to ensure you can receive the email that will allow you to change your password.

If you’d bookmarked beta.sulkyland.com, you’ll also need to update it to www.sulkyland.com

So, that’ll be the end of phase 1 of the transition to Sulkyland 7, and here’s what I’m planning (planning, so it’s not certain yet) for the next phases:

With a homepage and a more modern setup, I’ll be able to invest in new advertising campaigns. I just hope that some people won’t take advantage of these newcomers to sell them their bets for a fortune !
Creation of a new race viewer (it’ll no doubt support mounted trotting races, and perhaps plenty of other things too).

Allowing you to have a single Sulkies balance shared across all three worlds.
A comprehensive competition management system (a more powerful system than the calendars and forums for rankings).

Optimisation of version 6 to make it easier to incorporate the new features I’ll be developing for version 7.

A notification system for messages (like the ones you receive in apps on your mobiles).
New bonuses
An ‘unlimited horses’ subscription package, with its pros and cons; this will be a deliberate choice, not a replacement for current subscriptions. It will be up to you to decide whether it’s more advantageous to convert three Giga Team subscriptions into a single Infinity Team subscription.
And much more besides. I must admit that AI has opened up some incredible possibilities for me, and I’ll be trying to make the most of them.
