My foals

Every horse that came out of your breeding, including the ones you have sold. A horse came out of your breeding if you owned its mother at the moment of conception: that link is never passed on, selling the pregnant mare changes nothing about it.

The Owner column tells you whose hands each one is in today. It is often the only news one has of a foal sold two years ago.

The 2 % that come back to you

As the breeder, you take 2 % of the racing earnings of each of these horses, for life. It is their owner of the moment who pays it to you, deducted from the race's prize — they have nothing to do about it, and neither have you.

It is the most peaceful income in the game: it calls for no action, and it grows as your produce make their careers. A patient breeding operation ends up paying without anybody attending to it.

The Earnings filter is therefore the one to use here: it ranks your produce by what they have won, that is to say by what they have brought you. You will see at the same stroke which of your crosses really gave something.

A limit to know about

The list shows only the horses still in activity. Your produce that have gone into retirement disappear from it, and with them the trace of your oldest crosses — the very ones on which you would have the most hindsight.

That is the practical reason for keeping your own notes. A breeding operation is judged over years, this screen on the present. Note down somewhere, for each cross, the birth genetics obtained: it is the only way to keep a memory that the game does not erase. See breeding.

What this page is not

It does not show the genetics. It is a directory — who, with whom, for how much in earnings — and not a table of comparison. To judge a sire or a dam, open the card of each produce and compare its birth genetics with those of its two parents: see A horse's card.

The other criteria of the filter — name, owner, speciality, sex, age — serve above all to find one particular horse again, or to take stock of one given year's crop.

And for what comes next

Crosses are prepared in My mares, and the choice of the stallion in My stallions.
